DOT training programs for employees, supervisors and DERs typically include several courses. Each course is designed around specific learning objectives and included in programs to meet particular learning needs.

C1DN-02: DOT FMCSA Return to Duty

By design, the DOT return-to-duty process is not simple or easy. This course explains the steps a driver must follow after a positive DOT alcohol or drug test to be eligible to return to safety-sensitive duties in any DOT testing program.

Learning objectives

Learners who complete this course will be prepared to:

  1. Explain the steps in the DOT return-to-duty process for drivers, including evaluation and treatment or education
  2. Discuss the responsibilities of the driver and employer, and the role of the SAP
  3. Explain the rules for DOT return-to-duty and follow-up testing
  4. Describe the criteria and procedures for FMCSA voluntary self-identification.
