C7TJ-07: Opiates, or Narcotics

This DOT course provides facts about opiates, a family of highly effective but frequently abused analgesics, or pain relievers, that includes heroin and prescription narcotics.

Learning objectives

Learners who complete this course will be prepared to:

  1. Provide facts about opiates (narcotics) and their use
  2. Describe the physical and psychological effects of narcotics, and their acute and chronic health and safety risks
  3. Describe the impact of narcotics in the workplace
  4. Recognize signs of current narcotics use
  5. Provide basic information about treatment for narcotics overdose and dependence
