Our employee education programs for the drug-free workplace (DFWP) help employers meet the commitments in their substance abuse policies, the requirements for state certification, and the provisions of associations and contractors.

PAE1-05: Amphetamines and Opiates (Narcotics)

Instruction: Program
Authority: DFWP
Audience: Employee
Level: One hour

This program gives employees up-to-date and accurate information about two drugs for which employers with drug-free workplace programs commonly test. Amphetamines, including methamphetamine and ecstasy, are powerful and addictive central nervous system stimulants. Opiates, or narcotics, are potent and addictive depressants. The program covers natural and semi-synthetic opiates (e.g., morphine, opium, heroin, codeine) and synthetic narcotics (e.g., oxycodone, hydrocodone, darvon), which are frequently prescribed for pain relief and have become widely abused.

This program will benefit employees who:

  • Are subject to workplace testing for amphetamines and opiates
  • Would like to learn more about the effects, risks, abuse, impact and treatment for these drugs
