FMCSA Supervisor Training Requirements Summary
All people who supervise drivers must receive the same education that employees are required to receive.
In addition, supervisors must receive at least 60 minutes of training on alcohol misuse and 60 minutes of training on controlled substances use. The training is to help supervisors decide whether to require a driver to take a reasonable suspicion test. The training must include the physical, behavioral, speech, and performance indicators of probable alcohol misuse and controlled substance use.
FMCSA supervisor training is a one-time requirement. Recurrent training is recommended, but not required.
